Day Ten / April 10th

Today, since it was a completely free day, I actually slept in, somewhat.  I grabbed a few things from the continental breakfast at the hotel, then went next door to the restaurant for a proper meal.  We tried to order crêpes, but since the crêperie didn't open until 11:00 we were out of luck.  Most of us ended up ordering ham and cheese omelettes.  Since it was Scot's birthday, Kristi bought his breakfast for him.

After we finished eating, we went back to the hotel in order to get the things that we needed for the day.  We took the Metro downtown to look around and to shop.  After a while we stopped at the Hard Rock Café where we were supposed to meet Matt and Scott.  We waited outside for them for about half an hour, then decided they had been and gone, so we went in and got some food.  Others ordered some onion rings, fries etc. and I got the soup of the day which was mushroom.  The soup came in a soup plate, with a large spoon, and it tasted very good.

After we ate, we did some more shopping around including looking through «Galeries Lafayette» and another department store.  Mostly we looked at things we wished we had enough space to take back or that the price was lower, but a few purchases were made in gift shops.  After shopping for a while, we headed back to the hotel to change and get ready for supper.

After supper we went to the banks of the Seine to take a ride with «Bateaux Mouches» to tour Paris from the river.  It was breezy on the boat and slightly cool. It was very interesting to see all of the sights of Paris flood-lit at night.  Since Nanci forgot her coat at the hotel, she and Kristi were sharing one and were both cold.  So both Mike and I took off ours to keep them warm.  Surprisingly, since I was cold before I took off my coat, I warmed up without it.  For some reason, every time we went under a bridge, many of the people on the boat would yell to those on  it.  I did not do so, as I found it very stupid and irritating.

Some buildings along the Seine as seen from Bateaux Mouches, and Bateaux Mouches ticket

After the tour we were given more free time, so some of us went back to the hotel.  I wanted to see the Arc de Triomphe again, and perhaps go to the top, as well as perhaps the Basilica Sacre-Cœur, but no one else wanted to go, and I wasn't a) supposed to b) stupid enough to go alone.

At the hotel Scott was having a small party for his birthday, so I went to his room after I had done some packing.  I sat out on the balcony for a while and talked with people.  I left around 11:30 because I was tired, and we were informed by one of the teachers that the hotel staff said we were too noisy.  At that point Scott's party ended, but some of the others went to the Crowsnest guys' room and partied with them until who knows when, but I went to bed.
